As part of the county’s participation in the Duke Clinical Research Institute’s Randomized Cluster Evaluation of Cardiac Arrest Systems (RACECARS) initiative, Person County’s volunteer fire departments each received an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and the county commissioners learned proper hands-only CPR.

Person County Department of Emergency Services Director Thom Schwalenberg said said the county has received a donation of eight AEDs from Defibtech as part of the initiative.
