ATLANTA — In this Healio exclusive, the new president of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions provided a video commentary on the DIPRA trial presented at the SCAI Scientific Sessions.

Sunil V. Rao, MD, FSCAI, FACC, professor of medicine at the Duke University Health System, chief of cardiology at the Durham Veterans Affairs Health System and Editor-in-Chief of Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions, reviewed the results of the DIPRA trial, which found no excess risk for radial artery occlusion and hand dysfunction following distal radial artery access PCI compared with proximal radial artery access PCI.

As Healio previously reported, the researchers concluded that distal access is a safe alternative to proximal access, with a low complication rate.
